Charles Marohn will be part of two sessions at the Louisiana Smart Growth Summit.

Session Information

The Conservative Case for Planning (Manship Theatre, 11:05 AM)

This session focuses on how good planning is really about fiscal responsibility. The speaker will touch on municipal and regional growth patterns and why communities should be directing growth to places with already-existing infrastructure, and in efficient form, so that taxpayers are not responsible for excessive maintenance costs for infrastructure.

Building a Smarter, More Efficient Government

One of PlanLafayette’s 4 big ideas is: Refine Government. This panel will talk about the work to make the best use of tax dollars to build a smarter, more e‚cient government for all residents of Lafayette Parish. This includes analyzing potential return on investment before spending tax dollars on capital improvements. Cities across the country are seeing how auto-oriented development patterns are bankrupting our cities. Lafayette is taking this issue on and other communities can learn from what they’ve found.
