Curbside Chat (October 7)
Location: Central ArtStation, 801 Crockett St, Shreveport
The Curbside Chat Keynote and Discussion, featuring Charles Marohn ofStrong Towns, will outline how Shreveport can achieve productive growth in the face of many challenges. Further, Re-Form Shreveport and Strong Towns will explore the corresponding role that local businesses, strong citizens, and alternative modes of transportation play in a strong city.
This presentation will address questions such as:
- Why are our governments so short of resources despite decades of growth?
- Why do we struggle at the local level just to maintain our basic infrastructure?
- What do we do now that the economy has changed so dramatically?
Walking Tours (October 8)
Location: Meet at 710 Texas St, Shreveport, LA 71101
During these walking tours, attendees will learn Strong Town principles as they apply to Shreveport. Participants will discover how to view their neighborhood through the Strong Towns perspective while identifying current challenges and discussing possible solutions to their built environment. The walking tour is a way for community members to see the bridge between topics shared in our Curbside Chat presentation in the local context. A bus will transport tour participants between each neighborhood on the tour.
Bike/Ped Conversation (October 8)
Location: Shreveport House Concerts, 1508 Fairfield Ave, Shreveport
Explore why investing in alternative modes of transportation is important. Discussion will educate attendees on:
- Benefits to Shreveport-Bossier of bike/pedestrian accessibility
- Bike advocacy efforts in Shreveport
- Steps being taken to enact change
