Recommended Reading: Our List

We're often asked to recommend books to people wanting to learn more about our thinking here at Strong Towns. I have also found that, in this blog and in other places, I continuously refer to a set of books and authors over and over.

I've compiled a list of essential reading material -- the books that have most influenced me -- and have created a page on the Strong Towns site called "Essential Reading" for those of you that may be interested. The service that we use to compile the web site has a feature that pulls the information on each book straight from Amazon (good if you are an Amazon Prime kind of guy, like me).

There is no particular order to the list. Each one comes highly recommended.

  1. Suburban Nation
  2. The Smart Growth Manual
  3. Guns, Germs and Steel
  4. Collapse
  5. Cities
  6. The Long Emergency
  7. The Great Reset
  8. The Death and Life of Great American Cities
  9. Cities and the Wealth of Nations
  10. The Black Swan
  11. Crisis Economics
  12. Outliers
  13. Hot, Flat and Crowded
  14. The Original Green

Back with something from Jon Commers tomorrow.
