Our 2016 Top 10 List of Members by State

Strong Towns is a national movement that aims to speak to all of America (and beyond!). To do this, we need to reach people in each and every state.

Last year, we shared our inaugural "top 10" list of Strong Towns members per state (including DC), ranked per capita.  Here is an updated list for 2016 (2015 ranking in parentheses):

  1. District of Columbia (1)
  2. North Dakota (2)
  3. Minnesota (3)
  4. Oregon (5)
  5. Montana (6)
  6. Wisconsin (T10)
  7. Alaska (9)
  8. Maine (7)
  9. New Hampshire (4)
  10. Arkansas (17)

While the top three jurisdictions maintained their positions in 2016, there were a few dramatic changes in the list.  Most notably, Arkansas rocketed from 17th place last year to snag a space in the top 10. Wisconsin was also a notable performing, rising from a tied for 10th in 2015 to 6 in 2016. As a result of these two dramatic risers, Massachusetts  and South Dakota fell off the top ten list, dropping to 11th and 23rd respectively

If you're upset that your state didn't make this year's top ten list, now's the time to act!  Sign up during this week's #MembersMatter campaign, or if you are already a member, share our message with others in your community.

Stay tuned this week, as we'll be sharing other state level membership numbers.
