Local Leaders Are Walking Their Cities Back from the Brink. We're Here to Help.

One of the tragic ironies of the suburban experiment is that, after decades of building without feedback loops, many towns and cities now find themselves facing a long road to recovery that leaves no margin for error. The “help” coming from state and federal sources may not actually be helpful. Local leaders—be they city officials, planners and engineers, or community volunteers—must show the way.

The road ahead is perilous, yet there are two things we want you to know:

1. Recovery really is possible

Last month, we released a free ebook that charts a path to recovery and eventual prosperity. In The Local Leaders Tookit, we take you step by step, from the first three months to Year 2 and beyond. It’s as practical as can be. Follow this plan to walk your town or city back from the brink and then on to true financial resilience.

There’s another resource we’ve created that goes hand-in-glove with the ebook: the Strong Towns Academy. This is, by far, the most comprehensive resource we’ve created. It includes a total of nine in-depth courses, over 40 hours of video in total, unpacking the Strong Towns approach on everything from transportation and housing to economic development and public engagement.

If The Local Leaders Toolkit is the what, the Strong Towns Academy is the how.

These courses are available to purchase a la carte, at a total cost of $3,044. But for one more week only, you can also purchase a subscription bundle for $499. That’s an 83% discount.

Here are the nine courses we’re creating.

  • Strong Towns 101: Free Course (Available Now)

  • Aligning Transportation with a Strong Towns Approach (Summer 2020)

  • Creating Housing Opportunities in a Strong Town (Summer 2020)

  • Making Capital Investments in a Strong Town (Fall 2020)

This is your chance to align your whole team around the Strong Towns principles and practices that will help your city survive and even thrive in the coming years. For those of you who need continuing education credits, these courses should provide at least 32 CE credits.

Remember, this offer is only available through Sunday night at 11:59 p.m. Central.

2. You’re not alone

Unlike many companies and nonprofits who have struggled to see where they fit in a post-pandemic world, the COVID-19 crisis has clarified and confirmed much for us at Strong Towns. The suburban development pattern quietly undermined the financial stability of our cities for decades; coronavirus has brought them to their knees. As Chuck Marohn wrote in his article this morning, we’re in the endgame now. There is a very real possibility that hundreds of towns and cities across North America may simply cease to function in any meaningful way.

This brings renewed urgency to our efforts. Thousands of people like you who are doing the long, often difficult, and always vital work of building stronger and more resilient cities. We are committed to doing everything in our power to support you. That’s why we’ve poured ourselves into the Strong Towns Academy.

You are the Strong Towns movement, and we are here to help.
