Celebrity Ask Strong Towns: Author Melody Warnick

Each year, 12 percent of Americans pull up stakes and move somewhere new. Author Melody Warnick has described this as a game of musical chairs with 36 million players — the combined equivalent of the 25 largest U.S. cities. Unlike other times and other cultures, many Americans get to choose where they live. But with so many options, and with the grass always looking greener someplace else, how can we ever settle in where we actually are?

This is a challenge Melody Warnick has explored both in her personal life and in her work as a journalist. Melody is the author of This Is Where You Belong: Finding Home Wherever You Are, a book that looks at place attachment, the connective bond that can be nurtured between a person and his or her community. Richard Florida described This Is Where You Belong as “an important book for so many people who are choosing their place to live.”

We’re excited to announce that Melody will be our guest in the October 2019 installment of our Ask Strong Towns: Celebrity Edition webcast. She was previously featured on Episode 2 of our It’s the Little Things podcast. Now is your opportunity to join the conversation.

On Wednesday October 16th at 12pm CDT, Strong Towns members are invited to a very special Ask Me Anything event with Melody Warnick. Participants in this edition of Celebrity Ask Strong Towns are invited to log on live for a conversation with Melody, Strong Towns Community Builder Jacob Moses, and Strong Towns Senior Editor Daniel Herriges, followed by a moderated digital Q&A period. Members, please look in your email soon for your exclusive invite, or email team@strongtowns.org.

Join the movement now to join this webcast and ask your questions live. A recording of this live conversation will be released in the weeks following for non-members.

Non-members may pre-submit questions via the Ask Strong Towns page, though please be advised that member questions will take priority; join the movement now to attend live, or listen to the Strong Towns podcast, where we'll re-release the audio of Ask Strong Towns, to see if we answered your question.
