Work For Strong Towns

Talent comes from many places, even those where we might not think to look, and so we've created a process that is broad, inclusive, and as free of human bias as we can reasonably make possible. We're looking for the person with the right set of skills and approach—as such, that’s what our hiring process focuses on.

Hiring Process

Ensuring a Bias-Free Application

No name, face, or resume, please!

We don't want to see your resume, or even know who you are, until we determine that your skills and approach might be a good fit for our team. If you email us your resume, or contact us with your credentials, you'll be signaling to us that you are not a good fit for the way we work. Beyond that, we encourage anyone with an interest in these positions—regardless of any other factor—to apply.

Can You Do the Job?

Our first hiring step is a skills-based questionnaire that reflects real tasks from the role, allowing us to evaluate every applicant anonymously and fairly. We carefully review each response to decide who moves on to the next round.

Can You Work in Our Setting?

In the second round, we ask shortlisted candidates questions about their work habits to assess fit with our team and remote work environment. As with the first round, responses are anonymized and reviewed by multiple team members using a shared ranking system.

Revealing the person behind the work.

At the finalist stage, we ask for resumes and references—our first glimpse into each candidate’s background—before inviting them to a relaxed Zoom interview. Interviews are recorded so the full team can review and get to know each finalist.

Strong Towns provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
