Safe, stable, healthy, and affordable housing is the cornerstone of a thriving community.

Join us for a keynote address, expert panel, and collaborative working sessions to overcome the barriers to preserving and creating housing that is affordable for everyone in our community.

Free and open to the public, this convening event will bring together housing practitioners from every step of the process, municipal staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders to collectively address the barriers that are preventing the preservation and creation of affordable and workforce housing throughout Chatham County.

The program opens at 9:00 am with a Welcome from Savannah City Mayor Van Johnson, followed by the keynote address from Edward Erfurt from Strong Towns. Next, Whitney Shephard from the CCHC will present a map of the county to illustrate our challenges and opportunities, before we hear from a panel of local experts, including: Bert Brantley (Chamber CEO), Michael Kaigler (Chatham Co. County Manager), Jay Melder (City of Savannah City Manager), Ken Clark (Deputy Director of Housing Authority of Savannah), and a representative from DCA. Boxed lunches will be offered as we break into small working groups to collectively address a few of the identified barriers that have been prioritized for discussion and collective action.

Ultimately, with all of us working together, we can increase the supply of attainable housing, in all styles and at all price points. With your help, we can preserve and build housing that our local citizens and workers can afford. Please help us to build a stronger, healthier community – where everyone can live in a decent home with dignity. Together, we hold the key to a better future!
