A Tragic Irony

We shared this on our Facebook page a few weeks ago.

The idea that wide streets are required for emergency response time is a fundamental misunderstanding that permeates the design of public spaces in America. Public safety is about far more than simple response time. Designing places to be inherently safe is a more sophisticated, effective and affordable approach.

We need to get beyond the hammer/nail silo-dominated approach to designing public spaces and adopt a more nuanced, Strong Towns approach. When we do, we'll find we can not only build safer places but do so at far less expense.
