As we plan to kick off the first Strong Towns Boot Camp next week in Memphis, we are really proud to announce a second, smaller Boot Camp we are going to be holding in Buffalo just prior to CNU 22. Here are the details.
WHAT: A fast-moving, crash course in implementing Strong Towns thinking, featuring Charles Marohn of Strong Towns, Mike Lydon of Street Plans Collaborative and Joe Minicozzi of Urban-3.
1. Profit, Loss and the Next American City, Charles Marohn
Discussing the financial health of our cities and addressing hard questions like: Why are our cities and towns so short of resources despite decades of robust growth? and What do we do now that the economy has changed so dramatically?
2. Using Placemaking and Tactical Urbanism to Change the Culture, Mike Lydon
Delving into specifics of creative placemaking and tactical urbanism, movements that seek to drive grassroots change in making tangible improvements and alterations to the public realm, even without – sometimes especially without – local government’s permission.
3. How we Measure the City, Joe Minicozzi
Examining how different kinds of development patterns affect municipal coffers, with the goal of ensuring that the public and private sectors work together to ensure they cultivate the most productive aspects of their communities.
4. Discussion and Wrap Up
There will be a gathering downstairs to meet the presenters and build on the conversation immediately following the Boot Camp.
WHEN: June 03, 2014 at 1pm - 5:30pm
