It’s Championship Week of the Strongest Town contest! Yesterday we kicked off with a webcast in which Strong Towns president Chuck Marohn interviewed representatives from the two contest finalists: Mayor Steve Streit of Lockport, Illinois and Mayor Robyn Tannehill of Oxford, Mississippi.

Today, we’re excited to feature another great webcast. Strong Towns program director Rachel Quednau and Strong Towns development associate Alexa Mendieta were able to chat with few past winners of the contest. They got updates on what’s been happening in those cities since they won the contest, how they have responded to the challenges of the pandemic, and what their impressions are of this year’s finalists.

Here’s who Rachel and Alexa talked with:

  • Brenda Landis of Carlisle, PA (2016 Strongest Town Contest Winner). Brenda Landis was elected to the Carlisle Borough Council in 2018 and works as a Multimedia Specialist at Dickinson College

  • Russ Soyring of Traverse City, MI (2017 Strongest Town Contest Winner). Russ Soyring recently retired from 35 years of service as the Planning Director for Traverse City.

  • Lisa Nellessen Savage of Pensacola, FL (2019 Strongest Town Contest Winner). Lisa Nellesen Savage is the Executive Editor of the Pensacola News Journal.

You can watch the webcast below or on the Strong Towns YouTube channel.
