John T. Reuter

Executive Director

John T. Reuter is the Executive Director of Strong Towns.

Before becoming Executive Director, John served for twelve years on the Strong Towns Board of Directors and was the organization's first Senior Fellow. John's career has centered on helping people work together to solve problems and build a better future. Most recently, he served as Vice President for State and Local Strategies at the League of Conservation Voters and, prior to that, as the Executive Director of Conservation Voters for Idaho.

John co-founded the Sandpoint Reader newspaper while attending the College of Idaho and later served as the youngest city council member in Sandpoint, Idaho's history, eventually becoming council president. His experience in local government helped shape a lifelong belief that strong communities are built by people willing to invest in the places they call home.

He now lives in Boston with his wife and their mischevious goldendoodle.
